Hakeem Olajuwon '94
3rd best big in the game?
Written by Slevin424
With 99s basically in every stat it really comes down to feel and animations. Hakeem... and this kills me to say it, but he's a better shooter than Dirk. Dirk's release in 2K is janky. Hakeem has a better release in my opinion. He's also lightning quick, like he feels faster than a lot of other bigs. He's dirt cheap on the auction house and extremely effective either at C or PF.
Bought for: Pulled
Inside scoring: I actually prefer his post fade over Dirk's. It's twitchy and really quick so it throws the defense off. It creates a lot of space and he shoots it off rather fast. Post scoring with Hakeem is lethal. Super fast moves and lots of ways to shake and bake defenders. Dunking animations are insane for a big. His strength with 255lbs is pretty beastly. I think he'd bully anyone except Shaq.
Shooting: It's not too shabby. His release feels faster than Dirk's and it has a decent green window. I actually don't mind playing him like a stretch cause it works just as well as his post game. He can't hit from deep like Dirk but he can sink them consistently thanks to a smoother jumper.
Defense: This is obviously one of his best skills. Blocks, locks down post scorers, has no problem switching on guards thanks to his insanely fast speed. Strong man's anyone trying to catch some bodies knocking them out of their dunk animation. Gets steal/blocks which is my favorite animation. Intercepts bad passes like a beast. Has no problem defending perimeter players.
Rebounding: It's Hakeem.
- Playmaking: Surprisingly good. He has some pretty fun animations to pull off for a center. This thing is hard to compare to Kareem's GOAT as far broken ass centers playing like guards go... Hakeem can do that too.
- Spot up tendency: I think this is the reason why but I don't know exactly. Hakeem even at the PF often runs towards the rim when he's wide open at the 3pt line. So if you see him open and pass he's likely to run towards defenders rather than just spot up for the catch n shoot. I feel like this has to do with tendencies because Dirk camps the 3pt line all game.
Recommended Strategy: Post up, pick n roll/fade, ISO if you really want to. It's a GOAT it can do everything.
Other Comments: So Shaq is probably the best GOAT card maybe Yao too just cause his height would cause match up problems. But aside from those two I think Hakeem might be the 3rd best center in the game. Kareem is widely considered the best but I think Hakeem is faster and he's also a bit stronger. That 255lbs matters. But if Kareem has his duo with Magic that's a no brainer that card is broken.
Use if: You want to win games
Don't use if: You have Shaq or Yao
Bottom Line: Well 2K20 I guess this is goodbye. I won't miss you at all because you promised me something amazing when you first came out. Position locks means you can actually use PGs like CP3, AI (he's a PG in 2K MyTeam for sure), Stockton, Kemba and so many others who are on the short side. It was fun for a while cause I was able to use REAL PGs and it was fun seeing REAL lineups. Then you screwed us over adding in out of position and glitched cards to fish for VC purchases. I will say for a few months 2K20 was my favorite MyTeam. The challenges actually gave good rewards. Single player had some fun challenges with great rewards. Unlimited saw so many different lineups being used instead of the same god tier broken cards we always see like Giannis at PG, LeBron at SG, Webber at SF, Kareem at PF and Yao at C. I swear I've seen that lineup so many damn times it makes me sick. I guess the lineups were different this year but it was even worse. Unlike last year you NEEDED the cards to play the position so you can't just throw a bigger player at PG to counter it. Have to use matchups and the little guys got left behind. Hopefully they do position lock next year but don't fuck it up. I get it that LeBron, Magic and Simmons actually play PG they deserve a PG card but adding in so much other shit just ruined the economy of the AH. One minute AI was super good and expensive then the out of position cards came, he became worthless. Only reason he didn't drop to 7k MT like he did last year was because of his name. So long 2K20 hope you get shit right next time. Short players in the NBA are actually dominating the league and can out play bigger players, in 2K that's just not possible unless your opponent is trash. Realism my ass.
